Corrections:
I made a mistake in the last newsletter. I was in a rush to get the newsletter out and when I reported the winners of the Filk Hall of Fame I just cut and pasted the information off the FilKONtario website. It turns out that they had not updated their site yet and I sent you last years information (2006). The correct information is:
The inductees of the Filk Hall of Fame 2007 were announced at FilKONtario 17. They where:
CHRIS (KERIS) CROUGHTON:
Chris has been a fixture of the British filk community since 1991 and is best know for his sound engineering. He was an early adopter of Internet technologies and was an active member of the Filk Echo and rec.music.filk when they were the primary means of cross-Pond communication.
BRUCE PELZ
Bruce was involved in fandom from 1957 until his death in 2002. He provided leadership to the Los Angeles area fan community for over forty years. He produced a series of four filk books, called The Filksong Manual, from 1965 to 1969. Bruce was active but not well known for his encouragement and preservation of filk music.
KATHLEEN SLOAN
Kathleen has been an invaluable resource to Interfilk, since she was invited to become a Director in 1993; she is currently serving as vice-president. She travels extensively and is always finding new talents in the ever-widening filk community.
To read more about these outstanding people please check out the Filk Hall of Fame website:

2) UPDATE: Help save Internet radio!

There is some good news, because of the pressure from the public there has been a delay in the royalty rate increase. But please note that this is only a delay and the rates are now schedule to go up July 15, 2007 instead of May 15, 2007.
This is welcome news for webcasters, the artists they support, and the millions of listeners who enjoy Internet radio. SaveNetRadio.org will spend this time educating Members of Congress and their staffs about the incredible diversity of programming Internet radio offers us all.
All we can say is: KEEP UP THE PRESSURE!!!!!!!!!!!
If you have not done so please take the time to write to your Senators and Representatives. Send both an e-mail message and a paper snail mail message. It is important for you to take the time to do this! Do not let the big corporations take control of the internet radio the way they have taken control of regular radio.
Here are two good sites with much more information. Also these sites do have information on how to write a sample letter and the address to your Senators and Representatives
http://www.live365.com/choice/
http://www.savethestreams.org
Please do not sit on the sidelines for this issue. Take a few minutes and write a letter to help out Internet radio and Filk Radio.

3) The cost of mailing a letter will go up on May 14

Just a reminder that the postage rate is going up May 14, 2007, this is a fairly major increase with many hidden changes and new categories of mail.
I do not think that you will be shocked to find out that I have had to increase the shipping rate with the online store.

This falls under the category of: “I wish that I have thought of that”.
Kirstin & Volker Tanger, from Germany, have turned the domain Filkradio.com into portal or link hub for filk music and filk (friendly) stations.
It is a great looking site and you should all check it out.

Debbie Ridpath Ohi, the power behind filking.net has made some major updates and software changes to her filk FAQ site. It is now using more of a blog format and is worth checking out.

Want to get this and other filk news via e-mail about twice a month? Then sign up on the mail list at www.filk.com and get the filk.com E-newsletter.
Please put the word “FILK” in your subject line when sending me an e-mail. It is a good way for me to pick it out of the spam.
Also tell your friends about the website and filk radio.
