General Questions:

May I link or put a link of web radio on my web site
Yes! We also ask that you link the Filk.com home page somewhere also.
Please TELL YOUR FRIENDS
about the radio station!

Do the performers know that you are playing their songs ?
Yes, we have gotten permission from most of the filk publishers and performers to play their songs. The live365 system is also fully BMI and ASCAP compliant.

How much money do you make from the Radio Station?
There is no profit from running the radio station. In fact it cost several hundred dollars a year to keep it up and going. To support the cost of the radio station, we do sell CD and other things on this web site.

Can I buy what I hear on the radio?
Yes and No. The station plays both new and old music. The new songs are available in our shopping area. The old songs are "out of print" and are just no longer available.
Click here to Go to the shopping area.

If I'm really nice to you will you make me a CD of an old, "out of print" album?
Sorry, but NO.

Can you send me a copy of just one song?
again.... Sorry, but NO.

Technical Questions:

How do I play the web radio program?
Click on the icon to the left and go though the setup process. You should hear the program shortly.

I have gone though the setup process and still can't hear anything.
Please check out the live365 web site.Their help information is soooo much better than what I can write here.

What is the best way to listen to the radio program?
We have recorded the music to play at reasonable quality using a 56K modem. From time to time, especially if you are downloading other web pages, the program might skip.

Live365 is compatible with most MP3 players. If you need help choosing and configuring a player try the Windows and Mac tutorials.

If you are using Linux you can use the XMMS (X Multimedia System) to listen to our streams.

The songs do not sound the same as they do on the CDs.
This is true. To get the music to stream smoothly at 56k we have compressed the files down using MP3 technology. Doing this does have some quality loss; however, we think that we have come up with the best balance of quality vs. speed.

How can I tell what song is playing?
We are listings the songs that are currently playing at the top of this page. (go to top of page)

If you use the Live 365 web player to listen to the show it will show you what song is playing and what were the past two songs. If you use something like Win Amp to play the song you might not get this information.

I'm using the Live365 player and there is a "buy" button next to the song, but it doesn't send me to your web site.
I don't control the Live365 player so their "buy" button sends you to Amazon's web site. Of course Amazon doesn't sell filk CDs so most people are going to be very disappointed. If you do want to buy any of the song you have heard please go HERE!

Content Questions:

How often do you change the show?

Once a week we upload new songs. At the moment each week there is about 20 hours worth of music. We change the show over the weekend, normally on Saturday morning and changing out about 1/3 the play list or about 7 hours each week.

How do you choose which song to play?
At the moment we are just playing what we like. We often upload a group of songs which are part of a theme, but they are mixed in with the rest of the play list. That is why one month you might hear a lot of songs about computers or cats

Why are there ads?
To run ad free radio would cost us a lot of money which the web site can not afford at the moment. However, if sales of filk CDs increase we would consider upgrading to ad free radio.

Another option is to become what Live365 calls a VIP listener. This will let you hear the station without Ads. It only costs a few dollars a month.

Support this station and listen ad-free with Live365 Preferred Membership!

Why are you not playing my favorite song or performer ?
This is hard to say. The song might just be out of rotation or it is possible that we don't have a copy of the song or performer. It is also possible that we don't have a good quality copy of the song and are not playing it for that reason.

I am a performer, why are you not playing my songs ?
Drop me an e-mail we'll see what we can do. Or better yet send a copy of your CD. (We make no promises to play your album)

Why don't you play the old "out of print" songs ?

We do play a good number of old and "out of print" music... Well the ones that we have copies of. While we have a great collection, we don't have everything. Also to be honest some of the old music sound quality is not up to playing standards so we don't play it.

Why don't you publish the song list (order of songs)?
Part of the agreement with LIVE365.com is that we can not publish our song list. We are also changing thing every few days it would be hard to keep up.

Is what you are doing legal?
Yes, we have permission from most performers and publishers to play their music. Also we pay a fee to live365 covered license payments to BMI/ASCAP
